Baden-Württemberg Academy of Performing Arts, LLC
The program at the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg GmbH (ADK) is designed to provide a practice-oriented, project-based education that fosters cross-year and cross-program collaboration among the fields of directing, dramaturgy, acting, film, and set and costume design.
The ADK’s academic concept centers on an interdisciplinary approach. Its proximity to the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, the shared campus, and the collaboration with the Stage and Costume Design program at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart (ABK) make it possible to respond to an art form that is undergoing massive change and demands more than ever that today’s theater professionals broaden their horizons and educate themselves beyond the boundaries of their own discipline. For this reason, in addition to providing a solid education in theater, the ADK offers integrated projects that experiment with new forms—including new media—across disciplines and genres. As part of the master’s program in “Cultural Education,” the ADK has been collaborating with the Ludwigsburg University of Education since the 2016–17 academic year.
The ADK also works closely with surrounding theater and arts institutions to ensure that students are on track for a professional career from an early stage. Its interdisciplinary academic programs also make the ADK attractive to international students. Since 2015, the ADK has held memberships in E:UTSA (Europe: Union of Theater Schools and Academies), mitos21 (a network of theater professionals at major, influential theater institutions in Europe), and ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts) have strengthened its international activities.
Offer
International Exchange / European Collaborations:
Exchange and collaboration with other international universities are an essential aspect and a central focus of the educational program at the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg. These international networks enable, among other things, students from other universities to participate in ADK seminars and vice versa; productions and projects are invited to international guest performances and festivals. Every two years, the FURORE Festival takes place in Ludwigsburg—an international festival for young theater organized and staged by ADK students.
The Academy of Performing Arts’ participation in the Baden-Württemberg Foundation’s program (Baden-Württemberg Scholarship for Students) also contributes to the ADK’s internationalization and outreach.
Public Events:
- Final Presentations and Student Production Projects
- Event series: “Mondays at the ADK: Perspectives, Insights, Conversations” featuring prominent female artists, scholars, and experts; “Treffpunkt Campus International”; joint campus days with the Film Academy
